My name is Mindy Wood. I am a wife, mother, writer/editor, and modern homesteader among other things. I wear a lot of hats and that’s how I like it :)
When my husband and I were dating I worked full time in the media industry. Circumstances changed and I ended up working part time when we got engaged.
We realized that working part time was not the financial strain we thought it would be.
Working part time allowed me the time to meal plan, shop sales, and research purchases so that
we weren’t handing my paycheck over to someone else for things I could pretty easily do in my spare time.
It wasn’t long before I stumbled upon the minimalist movement and was inspired to par down our belongings as part of our journey toward a simpler and more fulfilling life, and it’s been wonderful. Less stuff means fewer things to maintain, clean, and replace. I love it!
I also found ways to do things for myself, like making my own household cleaners, cooking from scratch, and growing (and raising) our own food. I realized the value in homemade goods stretched far beyond the cost savings and was a great way to avoid toxic chemicals in our home and food.
Along the way we’ve encountered health issues and I’ve become quite the natural health
freak guru as I’ve learned how to take care of my family’s health naturally with #1. food, and #2 natural medicine. But we definitely couldn’t afford to go an all-natural route if I had to buy everything we needed, which is why I grow and make as much as possible.
Being more self sufficient has also allowed us to make significant steps towards living the life we dream of instead of the life we’re expected to have. That means I work from home, homeschool, and spend my time taking care of animals and crops (and my kids too!). It’s not the luxurious life I always thought I should have, but it’s exactly what I’ve always wanted.
We strive to live a simple life where we find joy and richness in what we can grow, bake, sew, build, and produce for ourselves.
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here :)
