Welcome to Purposefully Simple. If you’re looking to simplify your life, improve your health naturally, grow your own food, and create a more sustainable and self-sufficient life, then you’re in the right place.
What is homesteading?
You’ll here this term a lot here. Homesteading is, in it’s broadest sense, a lifestyle of providing for oneself. Often it revolves around food. Growing your own food, raising your own food, and cooking your own food. (learn more about what homesteading is here)
There is an element of preparedness involved too. Many homesteaders are gaining skills to take care of themselves and their families if a disaster were to occur.
For me it’s not so much that I believe a disaster is imminent, just that I realized if there were a disaster I would be totally at the mercy of whoever was willing to help me, if they were willing. I didn’t want to ever feel that way.
Quality food and better health
I also choose homesteading because it allows me access to high quality food I could never afford otherwise. I know exactly where my food comes from when I grow and raise it myself! I know from experience that food can be an amazing medicine.
Natural remedies, low toxin living, and other ways of raising naturally healthy families are things we talk about a lot here.
Connection to the natural world
There are many ways to connect to the natural world and homesteading is one of them. When you are so close to your food source you start to appreciate and commune with nature in a way I never could before.
It’s a simple life
You don’t need to be rich to enjoy a homesteading life. It may seem like it, but you don’t. You don’t even have to own any land. There are a lot of ways to homestead while you save for some land or make other plans.
My journey started out very much as a necessity. I was underemployed and we had to be very frugal. What I discovered though, was that I had more time to make things from scratch that ended up saving us money. The DIY lifestyle took hold and I started to wonder what else I could do for myself, maybe grow my own food? And the writer in me wondered why why not write about it too…(Find out more about me and my family here)
